Paul Anthony - Stoneware
While a candidate for a degree in architecture, I satisfied an elective requirement in my curriculum by signing up for a ceramics class. It seemed like a good and creative change of pace. My nonchalance lasted only until I saw a pot being "thrown" on the potter's wheel. It was MAGIC! I was hooked!
My architectural training and years of professional practice strongly influence my design decisions for the ceramic pieces I make. My forms are generated from designs evolving from functions. Pots have purpose - they are to be used. I work with the hope that in the process of use my ceramic pieces will enrich not only those who use them, but also the purpose for which they are designed.
Anthony Stoneware has operated professionally and successfully for over 45 years. We were both educated in clay production at the University of Florida during the early mid 1960s. We are designers by training and have the aptitude of likeing to work and create. We feel honored that our products enter our customers' lives with the intent that their lives are enriched, not only because of excellent craftsmanship and good design, but also the 'heart and soul' of handmade.
All of our products are hand made in our studio in Western North Carolina useing traditional techniques of whell-throwing and slab construction. We mix our own glazes and fire in a gas-fired kiln of our own making and design. All of the components of our work are made by us; the two producing potters: Paul and Tim. All of our outdoor garden products are "Winter Proof" by design. Our bakeware and serveware contain NO lead glazes: which are formulated for easy food release.
